Who’s Afraid of GMOs?: Understanding the Differences in the Regulation of GMOs in the United States and European Union

Issue Brief 44

Regulatory and perceptual considerations of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) divide the United States and European Union; these transatlantic differences, and the series of festering trade disputes they have caused, now threaten the successful resolution of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership. Although the involved interests are too entrenched for an easy, comprehensive solution, this issue is resolvable.
