Dr. Nikolas Stihl

Dr. Nikolas Stihl

Chairman of the Advisory Board of STIHL Holding AG & Co. KG, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of STIHL AG

For 10 years, Dr. Nikolas Stihl has chaired the advisory and supervisory boards of the STIHL Group, setting the company’s path for worldwide growth and a strengthened position in the United States. As the grandson of the founder of STIHL, Dr. Stihl embodies the qualities of German economic engagement—tradition and innovation—that have made the STIHL presence in the United States such a success.

Before assuming the role of Chairman of the STIHL Advisory Board and Supervisory Board in 2012, Dr. Stihl was Managing Director of VIKING GmbH, based in Langkampfen, Austria. He joined the STIHL Group in 1992 where he held various functions, including as a product manager for the chainsaw business at the largest foreign subsidiary, STIHL Incorporated, Virginia Beach, VA. He also held positions at Arthur D. Little in Munich and Mercedes-Benz AG in Stuttgart. Dr. Nikolas Stihl studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Stuttgart and received his doctorate from the Faculty of Mechanical and Process Engineering at the Technical University of Chemnitz.

About STIHL

Since its founding more than 90 years ago, STIHL has grown from a one-man business into a global chainsaw and outdoor power equipment manufacturer. Innovative ideas, in-house know-how, and meticulous craftsmanship have resulted in a broad and steadily expanding product portfolio.

The trade and investment relationship between the United States and Europe is the largest in the world, and Germany is at the heart of this economic partnership. STIHL has built a global reputation, and its name is synonymous with excellence in outdoor power equipment. For fifty years, that story of market-leading manufacturing has also been “made-in-America,” with STIHL’s presence in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at the center of the company’s U.S. operations, creating thousands of jobs and reaching across the United States. The impact that STIHL has made on global markets and the transatlantic economic relationship is the result of foresight and vision on the part of the Stihl family.
