Transportation and Land-Use Planning in Germany and the U.S.: Lessons from the Stuttgart and Washington, DC Regions

Policy Report 53

AGI’s new publication, entitled “Transportation and Land-Use Planning in Germany and the U.S.: Lessons from the Stuttgart and Washington, DC Regions,” is part of our project on The Transatlantic Climate and Energy Dialogue: Urban and Regional Transportation and Energy Problems and Solutions. Urban communities on both sides of the Atlantic face economic and environmental challenges related to sustainable urban transportation, particularly the inter-related issues of sustainable energy and mobility. Decisions that are made now will have a far-reaching impact on the environment and energy usage in the coming decades.

Policy Report 53 seeks to draw lessons from Stuttgart and Washington, DC and offer options to policymakers seeking to craft sustainable transportation and land-use policies in an era of increasing economic demands. Using these two regions as examples, the authors highlight the effects of transportation and land-use policies and how they are influenced and financed at the federal, state, and local levels.
