The American-German Institute (AGI) is delighted to honor Joe Kaeser with its Global Leadership Award on October 29, 2025.

The vital work of AGI would not be possible without our dedicated supporters. We invite you to invest in a strong transatlantic relationship during this time of global change and volatility.

Honoree

Joe Kaeser

Joe Kaeser

Chairman of the Supervisory Boards of Siemens Energy AG and Daimler Truck Holding AG

Joe Kaeser is convinced, “The business of business is to serve society.” His commitment to sustainable growth, leading innovation, and decisive leadership are the heart of his work as a transatlanticist and global citizen.

Mr. Kaeser is Chairman of the Supervisory Boards of Siemens Energy AG and Daimler Truck Holding AG. He is also a Supervisory Board Member at Linde plc and a Member of the Board of Trustees of the World Economic Forum. He was a longtime Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Munich Security Conference.

Mr. Kaeser has over forty years of experience at Siemens AG, where he has held a variety of leading management positions in finance and strategy, both within and outside Germany. He describes his tenure in the United States from 1995 to 2000 as “the best time of my life.” He began his career at Siemens in 1980 in the field of components and semiconductors, which is now Infineon Technologies. From 2004 to 2006, he served as Siemens’ Chief Strategy Officer and from 2006 until 2013 as Chief Financial Officer. He then took on the role of President and Chief Executive Officer, which he held until 2021.

During his tenure, Mr. Kaeser fundamentally reshaped the company and led the transformation of Siemens into three standalone public companies. Out of a one-size-fits-all conglomerate, he created three focused and adaptive companies: the “new” Siemens AG now focused on the industrial metaverse and smart infrastructure, Siemens Energy AG, and Siemens Healthineers AG, resulting in significant value creation. This move is still considered the biggest transformation in recent German corporate history.

Larry Culp

Larry Culp

CEO & Chairman of GE Aerospace

H. Lawrence Culp, Jr. is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GE Aerospace.

Larry joined the GE Board of Directors in April 2018 and was appointed CEO of GE in October 2018. In June 2022, he assumed additional duty as CEO of GE Aerospace and became Chairman & CEO of GE Aerospace when it launched as a public company in April 2024. He also serves as the non-executive Chairman of GE HealthCare.

As Chairman and CEO of GE, Larry led the industrial technology company’s multi-year financial and operational transformation. During his tenure, GE strengthened its balance sheet, reduced debt by more than $100 billion, grew profit by 20 percent, more than doubled adjusted earnings-per-share, and more than quadrupled its market capitalization. Under his leadership, GE further focused the company’s portfolio and simultaneously improved operations across its businesses by implementing and adopting lean with a relentless focus on safety, quality, delivery, and cost—in that order—to better serve customers.

These efforts built a strong foundation for the successful creation of three independent, investment-grade public companies—GE HealthCare, GE Vernova, and GE Aerospace—that, to date, collectively have increased shareholder value nearly fivefold. Each company is an industry leader with more than $19 billion in annual revenue, extensive global installed bases, and a strong services orientation.

Prior to joining GE, Larry spent twenty-five years at Danaher Corporation, including serving as President and CEO from 2001 to 2014. During his tenure, the company increased both its revenues and market capitalization fivefold.

Larry joined Danaher in 1990 at Veeder-Root, becoming President in 1993. He was appointed Group Executive and Corporate Officer in 1995, with responsibility for Danaher’s Environmental and Electronic Test and Measurement platforms while also serving as President of Fluke and Fluke Networks. He was named Executive Vice President in 1999, Chief Operating Officer in 2000, and President and CEO in 2001.

Investors and analysts consistently rank Larry as one of the top CEOs in annual Institutional Investor surveys, Harvard Business Review named him one of the Top 50 CEOs in the world, and Barron’s has named him one of the Top 25 CEOs in the world five times since 2020.

Larry is a member and the immediate past chair of the Board of Visitors and Governors of his alma mater, Washington College, and also serves on the Wake Forest University Board of Trustees. Previously, Larry was a Senior Lecturer at Harvard Business School, where he focused on leadership, strategy, and general management in the MBA and executive education programs.

A member of Phi Beta Kappa, Larry earned a BA in Economics from Washington College and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Performance

Bergamot Quartet

Bergamot Quartet

String Quartet

Bergamot Quartet is fueled by a passion for exploring and advocating for the music of living composers with creative programming, community-oriented audience building, and frequent commissioning. The quartet is in high demand as interpreters and co-creators of new music, having premiered hundreds of works by students of all ages and developed numerous significant new pieces with composers at the forefront of contemporary concert music. They maintain a full season each year of concerts ranging from DIY events to appearances at major venues.

Bergamot’s 2025 season includes a concert at National Sawdust celebrating the release of Samuel Torres’ A Dance for Birds”, composed for Bergamot and Torres’ Latin jazz sextet; residencies with Tulane University and Manhattan School of Music; a return to the Raritan River Music Festival; a collaboration with Cantori New York; a performance on “The Village Trip” series in Greenwich Village, where they will premiere Samuel Adler’s 11th and Louis Karchin’s 4th string quartet. They have recently launched “Project Resonance” with composer/performer Dan Trueman, a multi-tiered project which will foster the creation and performance of new works for Bergamot playing a set of hardanger instruments (traditional Scandinavian 9-stringed folk instruments). As educators, Bergamot will serve on faculty this summer at New Music On The Point, Wildflower Composers Festival, and Arts Letters and Numbers Creative Music Intensive. They also operate the monthly concert series “Bergamot Quartet Extended” as a medium to showcase their many inspiring collaborators and present new work.

Based in New York City, Bergamot Quartet is Ledah Finck and Sarah Thomas, violins; Martine Kinsella Thomas, viola; and Irène Han, cello. Bergamot Quartet was the inaugural Graduate String Quartet in Residence at the Mannes School of Music 2020-2022, where they were mentored by the JACK Quartet.
