At the NATO summit in Vilnius on 11-12 July 2023, the heads of state and government of NATO member states turned the long-term non-binding target of spending two percent of GDP on defense into a binding, permanent minimum. Can defense spending at this level in Germany win a majority? How does the development of the transatlantic relationship affect the acceptance of these changes?

At this event organized by the Munich School of Politics and Public Policy at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Tim Büthe, Professor for International Business at TUM and Joseph Grieco, Professor of Political Science at Duke University will first present the core results of the pilot study they are leading. Jeff Rathke, President of AGI along with Sabine C. Carey and Gunther Hellmann will comment on and discuss the results and place them in the context of current security policy aspects of the transatlantic relations.

This event is presented in partnership with the Munich School of Politics and Public Policy at the Technical University of Munich (TUM).
