Philip A. Ackermann is a Research Fellow with the Center for International Security and Governance (CISG) at the University of Bonn, where he works on transatlantic relations as well as Germany’s foreign and security strategy. At the Henry-Kissinger-Chair held by U.S.-Ambassador (ret.) James D. Bindenagel, he manages the newly established annual International Security Forum hosted by AGI and the CISG in Bonn.
He holds a master’s degree in Strategic Studies from Aberystwyth University, Wales, UK and received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Bonn. He is also a member of the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP).
In the end of February 2019, he is an AGI/GMF Fellow with the American-German Situation Room and will focus his research on Germany and Europe’s defense and security strategy, including the European Intervention Initiative (EII) and Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO), as it relates to the U.S’ call for a fairer transatlantic burden-sharing in defense.
