Building a Smarter German-American Partnership

With Robert Zoellick and Horst Teltschik

On December 9, 2019, AGI presented a lecture by Robert Zoellick on “Negotiating for the Future: Lessons for American Diplomacy from German Unification.” Mr. Zoellick is best known for his distinguished career as President of the World Bank, U.S. Trade Representative, and Deputy Secretary of State. He was also the lead U.S. negotiator on German unification, and he reflected on the lessons for American diplomacy today from the opening of the Berlin Wall and German unification. Horst Teltschik, who for many years was national security advisor to German Chancellor Kohl and who played a leading role in the unification negotiations, served as a discussant and Anne Gearan, White House Correspondent at The Washington Post, moderated.

AGI was honored to welcome German Ambassador Emily Haber for our inaugural event in our new office and conference space.
