Migration and Integration in Germany and the United States

October 17, 2019, 9 am - 2:30 pm

Success, Failure or Work In Progress?

Migration and integration have become dominant political topics in the United States and Germany. The German experience in 2015-2016 is often cited in the U.S. discourse on migration, but there has been little public examination of the progress and challenges since then. Our conference aims to deepen understanding of migration-related developments in Germany since 2015 and to compare the current integration successes and challenges in Germany and the United States. By bringing together scholars and experts from both countries, we also seek to strengthen linkages between the policy communities that work on migration with those who focus on transatlantic relations. And by incorporating young leaders who come from migrant communities in both countries, we will foster transatlantic instincts that will be important for many years to come.
