Honorary Co-Chair
Ambassador Harald Braun, Permanent Representative of Germany to the United Nations, has served as State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office and Director-General for Management in Berlin and since 1981 at posts in London, Paris, Washington, Burundi and Beirut.

In the private sector, from 2005 to 2008, he held the position of Corporate Senior Vice President of Siemens AG. In 2008 he was named Research Professor for Global Studies and Diplomacy at the State University of New York at Stony Brook after having studied economics and history in Tübingen and New York prior to joining the Foreign Service.
Ambassador Braun is an Honorary Citizen of Washington D.C., he is also Grand Officier of the National Order of the French Legion D’Honneur, bearer of the Grand Cross of the Italian Order of Merit and further distinctions, as well as a member of the Knights of the Order of St. John, a founding member of the Association of Friends of the Berlin Cathedral Church (Berliner Dom) and Trustee of the Roland Berger Foundation.
He has been married to Dr. Ute Braun since 1980; they have three adult children and a grandchild. His interests include classical music, modern literature, arts and sports.

John Emerson
Honorary Co-Chair
John B. Emerson is the current U.S. Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on August 1, 2013 and presented his credentials to German President Joachim Gauck on August 26, 2013.

From 1997 to July 2013, Mr. Emerson was the President of Capital Group Private Client Services. During the Clinton administration, he served in a number of different capacities as a White House senior staffer. From 1987 to 1993, he served as the Los Angeles Chief Deputy City Attorney. Before that, he was a partner at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, specializing in business and entertainment litigation and administrative law. Originally from the New York area, Mr. Emerson earned his Bachelor of Arts in Government and Philosophy from Hamilton College and his Juris Doctor from the University of Chicago. More recently a resident of Los Angeles, he is married to Kimberly Marteau Emerson. Both Emersons were very active in civic affairs in California and a number of foreign affairs organizations. They have three teenage daughters.

Ron Daniels

Ronald J. Daniels became the 14th president of The Johns Hopkins University in March 2009. Previously, he was provost and professor of law at the University of Pennsylvania (2005-2009) and dean and James M. Tory Professor of Law at the University of Toronto (1995-2005).

Since arriving at Johns Hopkins, President Daniels has focused his leadership on three overarching themes: enhanced interdisciplinary collaboration, increased student accessibility, and community engagement. As Chair of the Executive Committee for Johns Hopkins Medicine, he works closely with the trustees of Johns Hopkins Medicine, serving as a bridge between the university and health system.

Peter Wittig
Honorary Co-Chair
Peter Wittig has served as German Ambassador to the United States since April 2014. Prior to this, he was German Ambassador to the United Nations in New York and represented Germany during its tenure as a member of the UN Security Council from 2011 until 2012. There, he drew on his wide expertise in United Nations matters, having previously served as Director-General for United Nations and Global Issues at the German Foreign Office in Berlin and having been posted to the German Permanent Mission in New York in the late 1980s.

Wittig joined the German Foreign Service in 1982. He has also served in Madrid, at the headquarters as the private secretary to the Foreign Minister, and as Ambassador both in Lebanon and then in Cyprus. He was the German Government Special Envoy on the “Cyprus question” (the division of Cyprus). He has acquired extensive knowledge of the Middle East.
Before starting his career in the German Foreign Service, Wittig studied history, political science, and law at Bonn, Freiburg, Canterbury, and Oxford universities and taught as an assistant professor at the University of Freiburg.
His wife, Huberta von Voss-Wittig, has worked as both a journalist and a writer. The couple has four children: Valeska, Maximilian, Augustin, and Felice.

Sejoon Park
|
Sejoon Park was born to cellist parents in Seoul, Korea, and made his orchestral debut with Korea’s Busan Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of ten. A winner of Astral’s 2014 National Auditions, Mr. Park has received top prizes from the New Orleans International Piano Competition, the PianoArts Competition, the Southeastern Piano Competition, and the King Award for Young Artists, and was a semi-finalist in the 2015 Honens International Piano Competition. He recently performed Rachmaninoff’s Concerto Nos. 2 & 3 in Korea, with both the Incheon Philharmonic Orchestra and the Seongnam Philharmonic Orchestra. He has appeared on the stages of Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Benedict Music Tent in Aspen, Colorado, and has been soloist with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, the Salina Symphony, the Eurasian Philharmonic, the South Carolina Philharmonic, and the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. A PianoArts Fellow and Volunteer Artist for Sing for Hope, Mr. Park participates in musical outreach activities across the United States. He performs regularly for audiences ranging from school children in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to healthcare patients and seniors in under-resourced communities in New York City. Mr. Park holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University and a Master’s degree from The Juilliard School. He is currently continuing studies as an Artist Diploma candidate at the Peabody Institute.

What does Black Tie Optional mean?
Black tie optional means that male guests are invited to wear tuxes and women may wear evening gowns or cocktail dresses — what you would wear at a black-tie affair — but you don’t have to. It’s fine for men to wear nice dark suits and for women to wear dresses that aren’t necessarily Oscar-night material.
