Anniversary Politics: Commemorations of WWII in the Asia Pacific in 2015
Dr. Lily Gardner Feldman will speak at this event organized by The George Washington University.
About the conference:
2015 is a year of important anniversaries in the Asia Pacific. Without a doubt, the most significant for the region as a whole are those associated with the end of World War II in 1945, be it August 15 marking the Japanese surrender, or September 2 when the Instrument of Surrender was signed aboard the USS Missouri. How countries in the region are commemorating this historic event 70 years later has already generated much public attention and even raised new tensions. This conference will focus on the highly contentious “memory politics” in the Asia Pacific and draws from the expertise of faculty from GW and elsewhere who will explore the experiences of various countries in the region and beyond.
