Another Pivotal Year?

February 19, 2015

Please join us on Thursday, February 19, for a workshop where we will focus on the strength and vulnerabilities of the German economy in the European context and on the potential impact of the European Central Bank’s expanded program of asset purchases on lending and growth in the euro area.

The first presentation will explore whether the strength of the German economy is an illusion, as Olaf Gersemann, the business and economics editor of the German daily “Die Welt” seems to suggest in his new book, Die Deutschlandblase (The German Bubble). With him, we will review the state of play of the German economy and the current interplay between the business community and the political leadership in Berlin. In the second presentation, with the help of the IMF’s Luigi Ruggerone, we will explore the potential impact of the ECB’s recently announced program of quantitative easing on lending in a bank-based system, such as Europe. The presentations and their discussions will be moderated by Alexander Privitera, Director of AGI’s Business & Economics Program.

Please register for this event and contact Kimberly Frank at kfrank@aicgs.org with any questions.
