Langhammer Luncheon with Ambassador Peter Wittig

Throughout the year, AGI hosts a number of meetings with policymakers and advisors, and we were pleased to be joined for a private lunch discussion with a special guest, German Ambassador Peter Wittig, on Wednesday, September 24, 2014. Ambassador Wittig discussed relevant topics of the transatlantic agenda, including the recent NATO response to the crisis in Ukraine, the terror threat posed by ISIS, as well as the impact on the German-American relationship of the so-called NSA scandal. The Ambassador also discussed transatlantic trade and the state of the European economy in what was a timely and very interesting “tour d’horizon.”

Ambassador Peter Wittig most recently served as Permanent Representative of Germany to the United Nations. He represented his country in the Security Council during its membership in 2011/12. Amb. Wittig joined the German Foreign Service in 1982. He has served in Madrid, New York, as private secretary to the Foreign Minister at the Foreign Office headquarters, and as Ambassador to Lebanon. As Ambassador to Cyprus, he was also the Special Envoy of the German government for the Cyprus Question.

Langhammer Series on Public Policy, this event provided a unique opportunity for candid dialogue among a select group of high-level German and American corporate leaders, policymakers, and media.
