Luncheon with Prof. Dr. Hans-Werner Sinn
AGI was pleased to host a private luncheon discussion on September 16 with special guest Prof. Hans-Werner Sinn, President of the IFO Institute for Economic Research in Munich. The lunch was held in the offices of Alston & Bird.
Professor Hans-Werner Sinn is an important and widely respected authority in Germany and enjoys a global reputation. Since 1989, Dr. Sinn has served on the Advisory Council of the German Ministry of Economics and has written and spoken extensively on some of the most challenging economic issues Germany and the EU face today. His most recent book is entitled “The Euro Trap” and examines the euro’s evolution during the past decade and what now needs to be done to correct its path.
Dr. Sinn has been a stern critic of the ECB and has argued that it has been conducting what he terms a “stealth bailout” of Greece, Ireland, Portugal, and Spain for the past three years, financing capital flight and/or current account deficits by allowing them to accumulate massive liabilities in their TARGET2 accounts. He has been identified as one of Europe’s most influential economists with policy impact.
The discussion focused on the euro system in light of the current and expected economic developments in and beyond the euro zone.
