Dinner with Dr. Stefan Mair and Dr. Volker Treier
The AGI Business & Economics Program and the Representative of German Industry and Trade (RGIT) are pleased to host a dinner roundtable on Thursday, September 19, 2013. Our two guest speakers are Dr. Stefan Mair, Member of the Executive Board of the Federation of German Industries (BDI) and Dr. Volker Treier, Deputy Chief Executive and Managing Director of International Economic Affairs at the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK). These two top executives of German industry who will discuss the potential impact of the upcoming German elections on the economy and transatlantic trade.
Dr. Stefan Mair joined the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) as a research fellow in 1992. After working at the SWP as Director of Studies and Research Director, he then became Managing Director of the International Markets Department at the BDI in October 2010. Since November 2010, Dr. Mair has been a Member of the BDI Executive Board and has teaching assignments at the University of Munich (LMU). Dr. Mair graduated from the University of Munich (LMU) in political science, economics and sociology in 1988. He was a research fellow at the ifo Institute for Economic Research until 1991 and received his PhD in political economics in 1992.
Dr. Volker Treier began working for the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) in 2006 as Head of the Department for Economic Cycle and Growth Policy and then was a Delegate for the special mission “European Political Controlling.” From 2006-2007 he was Assistant Managing Director of the Professional Education Division and from 2008-2010 he was the Chief Economist and Managing Director of the Economic Policy Division. Since 2011 he has served as the Deputy Chief Executive and Managing Director of International Economic Affairs. Dr. Treier studied economics at the Universities of Bamberg and Budapest and received his PhD from the University of Bamberg.
