DAAD/AGI Fellowship Alumni Networking Reception
AGI was pleased to host a DAAD/AGI Fellowship Alumni Networking Reception on Tuesday, June 26, 2012. The reception took place at the DAAD Office in Berlin.
Opening remarks were made by Ambassador Frank Loy, who touched on the U.S. election, the important themes that will influence the decision, some underlying characteristics of the American electorate that shape its politics, and its possible impact on transatlantic relations. The reception, generously sponsored by the German Academic Exchange Service, will give former DAAD/AGI Fellows and friends of the Institute the opportunity to engage with each other, expand their German-American networks, and continue to strengthen the transatlantic relationship in an informal setting. We hope you will be able to join us for this DAAD/AGI Fellowship Alumni reception.
Ambassador Frank Loy was the Alternate U.S. Representative to the 66th Session of the UN General Assembly in 2011. From 1998 to January 2001, he served as Under Secretary of State for Global Affairs. This was his third appointment in the Department of State. He has served in every Democratic administration since John F. Kennedy. Mr. Loy has also served as senior business executive, as Senior Vice President of Pan American World Airways and as a leader in the successful effort to bring the Penn Central Transportation Co. out of bankruptcy. He has been active in the non-profit community, serving as President of The German Marshall Fund of the U.S. and as Chairman of numerous boards of nongovernmental organizations. These include the Environmental Defense Fund, the League of Conservation Voters, Population Services International, and Resources for the Future. He is a graduate of the Harvard Law School and practiced law with the Los Angeles firm of O’Melveny & Myers.
