Briefing on German Agenda for G8 and NATO Meetings
In a roundtable discussion at the American-German Institute, Dr. Christoph Heusgen, Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Foreign and Security Policy Advisor, discussed the upcoming agenda for the G8-NATO meetings as well as current German foreign policy in Afghanistan and the Middle East.
In his summary of current foreign policy issues occupying Berlin Dr. Heusgen touched on Germany’s mission in Afghanistan, talks with Iran, and the situation in Syria before ending with an overview of some of the regional issues Germany is active in today, from Kosovo to working on Serbian ascension to the European Union. In the dialogue with participants that followed the discussion centered on what will make the upcoming Chicago summit a success, the lessons that have been learned from NATO’s intervention in Libya, and the future of NATO enlargement.
