Making Friends While No One Is Looking
On February 14, 2011, AGI convened a conference on “Making Friends While No One Is Looking: The Role of Sub-national Actors in Reconciliation in East Asia and Europe.” The conference was generously supported by the Harry & Helen Gray Culture and Politics Program and the AGI Society, Culture & Politics Program. Over the course of several panels, the conference tracked reconciliation efforts in the two regions since the end of World War II, examined the importance of exchange and twinning programs for reconciliation efforts, and assessed how the media can encourage cultural integration and understanding.
