Martin Daum Receives Global Leadership Award
New York, NY, November 13, 2024 – The American-German Institute at Johns Hopkins University (AGI) honored Martin Daum, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler Truck Holding AG and Daimler Truck AG, with its 2024 Global Leadership Award at a gala dinner on November 12 in New York. The award recognizes Mr. Daum’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in the transportation industry on both sides of the Atlantic.
Martin Daum led the Board of Management at Daimler Truck AG since its spinoff as an independent company from Daimler Group in 2021 until October 2024, successfully steering one of the world’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturers through the COVID-related supply chain challenges and global uncertainty. Under his leadership, Daimler Truck is at the forefront of the sustainable, emission-free transport of the future.
“Despite a complex and disrupted global environment, Martin Daum continues to lead Daimler Truck to success,” said Martin Richenhagen, Chairman of the AGI Board of Trustees. “His commitment to fighting climate change and transforming how we move goods and people will ensure a brighter, greener future.” Mr. Daum joins AGI’s list of distinguished Global Leadership Award recipients.
Since inventing the first truck over 125 years ago, Daimler Truck hasn’t stopped innovating. Daimler Truck works “for all who keep the world moving” and strives to lead sustainable transportation by bringing more and more Zero-Emission Vehicles into series production, introducing autonomous trucks on U.S. highways in this decade, and pushing connectivity solutions to the next level. Daimler Truck North America, headquartered in Portland, OR, is the leading commercial vehicle manufacturer in North America and includes iconic brands such as Freightliner Trucks and Thomas Built Buses.
“As a leader of a global German company with over 40,000 employees in the United States, it is an honor to be recognized by the only research institute in the United States that focuses exclusively on the German-American relationship,” said Mr. Daum. “We keep the world moving, and the American-German Institute’s analysis and policy expertise help companies like Daimler Truck understand the transatlantic economic environment and deliver better solutions for our customers.”
Sponsors of the 30th Global Leadership Award Dinner include among others Commerzbank and Penske.
AGI inaugurated the Global Leadership Award in 1994 as part of the Institute’s mission to strengthen ties between the United States and Germany. The Award recognizes the achievements of business and government leaders who have advanced the transatlantic partnership. Germany is a key partner of the United States in its most important international relationships: in transatlantic trade, within the NATO security alliance, and beyond.
