Building a Smarter German-American Partnership

As Europe–and Germany in particular–copes with the influx of refugees from the Middle East and Africa, it is facing political and public resistance to its humanitarian efforts.  As this recent article from The Washington Post highlights, xenophobic attacks are increasing in Germany, a country whose history makes it sensitive to such acts.   As more migrants cross over Europe’s borders, the question of how to integrate them into society will become all the more imperative.

AGI will continue to follow developments to immigration and integration in Germany, particularly as part of its Transatlantic Exchange Program for Young Minorities.  The growing crisis demonstrates the need to engage in better understanding of immigration and integration among diverse communities within society and across the Atlantic.
