Germany, Comfortable Alone
The German foreign policy apparatus is on the verge of change, predicts Michael Inacker, an AGI Board of Trustees Member. Germany’s increasingly distanced relationships with long-time allies, including the United States, France, and the European Union, is a cause for concern on its own. However, this trend is joined by deficient or absent strategies toward Russia, Asia, and developing states. Meanwhile, mounting questions in Berlin on the effectiveness of German military operations have extended to questioning the core purpose of Germany’s use of military force. Writing in German for the upcoming issue of Internationale Politik, Inacker outlines how Germany will be far less internationally connected in the future.
